Call for Rochdale Pioneers Award Nominations

Dear Members,

We are inviting you to submit nominations for recipients of the International Co-operative Alliance’s Rochdale Pioneers Award. This Award is the highest honour that ICA bestows.

The purpose of the Award is to recognise, in the spirit of the contribution of the Rochdale Pioneers, an individual who has contributed to innovative and financially sustainable co-operative activities that have significantly benefited co-operative members. Under special circumstances, a co-operative organisation can be recognised.

Since its establishment in 2000, the Award has been presented biannually. A special award was given in the 2012 International Year of Co-operatives. The next award will be presented in Cape Town, South Africa, when ICA members from around the world convene for our biannual conference. A list of past recipients accompanies this letter.

We invite you to submit nominations on the accompanying Call for Rochdale Pioneers Award Nominations form. Nominations are invited from member organisations of the ICA and from organisations in solidarity with the co-operative movement. Nominees must be current or former members or employees in an ICA member organisation or in one of that organisation’s members or affiliates. If an organisation is nominated, rather than an individual, it must be an ICA member organisation or one of that organisation’s members or affiliates.

A nominee’s achievements must:

• Visibly demonstrate benefit to the global co-operative movement
• Be innovative
• Be financially sustainable and of a permanent nature
• Demonstrate regard to gender issues and concern for the community

Nominations must be received by the Director General by 4 September 2013. Selection of the final awardee will be made by the ICA Board-appointed Election Committee. Although more than one award has been presented in some years, it is the intent of the Committee to identify a single awardee for 2013.
